Agricultural runoff can lead to groundwater contamination with nitrate. By monitoring nitrate levels at the source an early warning system can be utilised to protect drinking water sources.

An online multi-parameter early warning system deployed at the source of drinking water supplies can provide a crucial tool in ensuring high quality drinking water is produced and prevent issues occurring during in the plant.

In this case study, three s::can online sensors were deployed. The spectro::lyser, the oxi::lyser and the condu::lyser were installed in the groundwater, continuously measuring a wide range of parameters including organics (DOC and TOC), dissolved oxygen (DO), nitrate, turbidity, temperature and conductivity. All the sensors were connected to the concube controller with a rucksack clamp on brush cleaning mechanism.

Online monitoring technology is an essential improvement in quality assurance for drinking water suppliers.
