s::can spectro::lysers are the defacto standard for organic carbon monitoring because of their proven track record in their ability to measure DOC accurately in rivers, oceans and reservoirs.

The ability to accurately measure DOC and analyse the UV-Vis spectral data generated by the spectro::lyser has led to many researchers analysing carbon flux to use this sensor as their main analysis tool.  

In this long term study of over 15 rivers, the s::can spectro::lyser is deployed in remote areas and to ensure the data produced is of high quality, the automated cleaning approach utilised is the rucksack brush. Each system measures DOC, TOC, the UV-Vis spectrum as well as conductivity and temperature.

After 1 year of only automatic cleaning with the ruck::sack, manual cleaning decreased the TOC value by 1%.
